For people living with a life threatening illness, it is an enormous task to provide social, emotional and spiritual support to people dying. This task is often undertaken by family, friends and workmates, who often feel unprepared for such a role.

A 3 hour interactive grief and loss workshop.

Most people find talking about death and dying very challenging. This workshop explores why that might be given changes in our society over time as well as our own reactions to death and dying.

The session also explores:

  • what can be helpful to people who are dying and their families
  • possible personal reactions to death and dying
  • how to care for people
  • what to say, and
  • most importantly, how to listen.

Aims of this session:

  • talk about cultural and social change that impacts on community attitudes to death and dying
  • explore personal reactions to death and dying and impact on families and carers
  • enable participants to consider what might be helpful for those who are dying and their families
  • develop a series of principles and practices about communicating with people who have a terminal illness, and their families and carers.

Who would benefit from this session:

  • Community groups
  • Aged Care Facility staff
  • Nursing staff
  • Therapists
  • Neighbourhood Houses
  • Volunteers
  • Members of clubs and associations, e.g., Rotary, Probus, CWA, etc.

It depends on the type of group attending as to the number of people who could attend a particular session. This should be discussed with the presenter.
